Job Purpose:

As an application owner, manage the oversight of vendor based applications.  This includes those hosted at vendors or vendor licensed software operated in-house within the bank’s data centres.


• Ensures projects are meeting plans and objectives.

• Perform governance and operational processes to ensure that vendor related activities meets banks expectations and standards/policies

• Analyses system requirements.

• Reviews and evaluates project plans and objectives to ensure they meet system needs.

• Monitors changes to applications and their operating environment. To ensure they match bank approved changes

• Analyses any issues of high complexity.

• Provides application support input with regard to SCM activities.

• Interacts directly with clients and vendors regarding project activities.

• Applies effective project management methodologies and control techniques.

• Recommends technical solutions on application problems.

• Reviews and develops updates of contingency documentation and processes.

• Contributes to the achievement of area objectives.



• This position requires a person who is self-directed, can manage vendor and in-house relationships to bridge communications, coordination and oversee a vendor’s operation of their service. S/he has knowledge of technology vendor governance and oversight and is technical to understand the application’s architecture, infrastructure and operations.

This includes:

o Change management – for vendor operated (SAAS, ASP), oversee review and approvals of all changes for the application. Work closely with change mgmt. team on vendor based changes for in-house operated software

o Incident mgmt. - working closely with the incident management team, liase with vendor to drive restoring of service or mitigating steps

o Problem mgmt. – understanding of root cause, action items, problem management process

• Ability to think clearly and function when under pressure such as during incidents, changes and deployments. Experience working in an ITIL environment, where clear and tight processes are used at all stages. A demonstrated ability to prioritise and multitask, due to the nature of the role, there will always be demands on your time, with each one being called out as the most important. This is a highly visable and high performing team within the bank; as such you will need to be a flexible team player, working with your peers as needed as part of a global organisation. This role will require some out of hours and weekend work.

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience required, advanced degree is beneficial

• 6-8 years  of diverse experience in multiple areas of information technology required

• Experience with managing vendor hosted solutions (SAAS) as well as vendor software that resides on in-house servers

• Ability to lead a technical team to diagnose issues across the entire IT realm, Server, OS, Storage, Application, Database, Networks. Then working with the team ensure a return to business as usual.

• Experience communicating, verbal and written, with all levels of the organisation, from technical to Snr Mgmt.

• Experience with change, incident and problem management processes and tools

• Technical experience with distributed system architecture and infrastructure (virtual and physical servers, F5 load balancers such as ESX, Linux, Solaris OS and storage IBM XIV)

• Experience with application architectures

• Experience with global applications that support global user base, high transaction volumes, Linux based distributed architecture, Oracle DBMS

• Experience with managing changes to applications and their environments.

• Experience planning, designing and implementing automated testing

• Experience in the securities or financial services industry is a plus.

• ITIL certification or experience in an ITIL standard environment

• Experience with production incident management

• Preferred (Internal/External):

• Extensive experience in Service Support business, fund accounting and pricing services IT preferred particularly in areas such as mutual fund accounting and  pricing services

• Experience in the securities or financial services industry is a plus.

• Experience planning, designing and implementing automated testing

• Experience with Dell Clerity, Cisco OTV (overlay transport Virtualization), network infrastructure, messaging middleware (WebSphereMQ, NDM, sFTP)
