Job Description

  Assists in conducting straightforward legal research, drafting legal documents, and performing other legal related duties under the guidance of BNY Mellon attorneys.  In some areas of the firm may focus on legal activities related to investment advisory services, fund management, product development, or trust administration.   Prepares and processes first-draft basic legal documents for general or specific areas of BNY Mellon's legal practice including corporate secretarial, subsidiary and business committees, business lines and departments, and/or designated clients, regulators, investors, outside attorneys and Bank customers.   May conduct  preliminary review of legal briefs, motions, contracts, other court filings, and fund documentation.   Assists in compiling information from a variety of bank sources and preparing responses to legal information requests. Updates database files and processes electronic documents.   With direct guidance, conducts fact-finding and legal or regulatory research and delivers to more senior colleagues or attorneys. Supports outside counsel engagements, arranging exchange of information, and reviewing incoming documents for relevance and proper dispensation. No direct reports. Contributes to the achievement of team objectives. Modified based upon local regulations/requirements.   Qualified candidate will provide broad-based paralegal support to a busy in-house legal department.  Responsibilities may include: responding to subpoenas, information requests, and legal process, and conducting research regarding assets held in custody utilizing proprietary systems.  Candidate should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and be comfortable in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment.  Experience in a financial institution is a plus.    


Bachelor‘s degree or paralegal certificate, or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required.   0-1years of total work experience preferred.  Experience in legal support preferred.     Preferred experience in Microsoft Word and Excel, excellent organization skills, ability to work under tight deadlines, ability to monitor their own workload to meet pertinent deadlines, handle several projects simultaneously, strong interpersonal and analytical skills and  strong verbal and writing skills.
